Pietro Testore

1732–1800 · Milan · Italian luthier

Share:FacebookWhatsApp

Pietro Testore was a luthier born in Milan in 1732 and who died around 1800; the exact date of his death is not known with certainty. He belonged to the celebrated family of violin makers, being the son of Paolo Antonio Testore, and within that lineage he is considered the least skilled.

His work is generally of low quality in every respect, from the choice of wood to the dark brown varnish. Nevertheless, his instruments usually have good acoustic properties, and his violas are particularly prized.

The literature on violin making also mentions a certain Gennaro Testore, but there is no evidence that a luthier by that name ever actually existed.
