Pierre Chédeville
1694–1725 · Oulins · French musette player
Pierre Chédeville was a French musette player, born in Oulins, in the Eure-et-Loire department, on 13 October 1694, and buried in Paris on 24 September 1725. He came from a family of merchants and farmers, although his musical lineage was shaped by the Hotteterre family: his mother was a granddaughter of Nicolas Hotteterre, who died in 1693.
While still very young, he moved to Paris with his brother Esprit Philippe. In 1709 both joined the Paris Opera orchestra as musette players. They were probably under the guardianship of their great-uncles Louis and Nicolas Hotteterre, since the opera's records listed them under the surname Hotteterre rather than Chédeville.
In January 1714 he acquired the reversion of Louis Hotteterre's post in the Grands Hautbois and, after Louis's death in 1716, he appears to have officially held the position. No compositions of his own are known.
