Share:FacebookWhatsApp

Marieta Morosina Priuli was an Italian composer from the noble Venetian Morosina family, about whom very few biographical details survive. Her activity is documented around 1665, the year in which she appears on record as an author.

In 1665 her volume Balletti e correnti was published in Venice. It was written for three string instruments and harpsichord serving as basso continuo. The work was dedicated to the Dowager Empress Eleonora, a member of the House of Habsburg. The collection brings together five series of pieces paired by key, though not by theme, and eight independent correntes. Its style is conservative.

Her importance lies above all in the existence of this publication, which documents the musical practice of a Venetian noblewoman within the court dance culture of the period.
