Marie Henriette Schröter
1766–1804 · Leipzig · German singer
Marie Henriette Schröter was born in Leipzig in 1766, and her date of death is not known with certainty: she apparently died in Karlsruhe, after 1804. Sister of the also singer Corona Schröter, she received training from her father and, probably, from J. A. Hiller.
While still very young she performed in concerts in Leipzig and, together with her brother Heinrich Schröter, in Frankfurt in 1780. At barely thirteen she was listed as a music teacher on the appointment of her father to the court of Hanau. She later became a chamber singer at the court of Darmstadt, where in 1788 she married the court official J. J. Rühl.
A letter from her sister Corona, dated 1794, suggests a quiet domestic life, although her name remained in the court records as a singer until 1804.
