Marie-Anne Ursule de Caix
1715–1751 · Lyons · French viola da gamba player
Marie-Anne Ursule de Caix, known as the elder, was born in Lyon on 9 February 1715 and died in the same city, on a date tentatively placed around 21 September 1751. She belonged to the family of François-Joseph de Caix, of whom she is the only daughter cited by name.
She was probably the eldest of the sisters and the only one who played at the family concerts of 1738, in which the others appear as the younger and the third. According to the Duc de Luynes, she was a very accomplished performer.
Her name survives above all thanks to Louis de Caix d'Hervelois, who dedicated to her, in his fifth book of pieces for viola da gamba (1748), a work entitled La Marie-Anne de Caix.
