Marie-Anne Castagneri
1722–1787 · French music dealer
Marie-Anne Castagneri was a French music dealer, the daughter of Andrea Castagneri. She worked in Paris during the second half of the eighteenth century, in the field of music publishing and the sale of scores.
Following her father's death, she obtained a licence as a bookseller-publisher (stationer) in September 1747 and set up in the rue des Prouvaires with the business known as «A la musique royale». In January 1748 she married the sculptor Pierre Hutin, who died in 1762. The business continued to operate until 1787, the year Castagneri herself died in Paris, in October.
Her shop distributed works by French composers of the period, among them Clérambault, Daquin, Duphly, Guignon, Jean-Marie Leclair, Balbastre and Grétry, as well as ballads, ariettas and periodical music publications.
