Ludwig Felix Brandts Buys
1847–1917 · Deventer · Dutch organist, choral conductor and composer
Ludwig Felix Brandts Buys, born in Deventer on 20 November 1847 and died in Velp on 29 June 1917, was an organist, conductor and composer in the Netherlands. The son of Cornelis Alijander Brandts Buys, he directed his career towards male-voice choral music.
Between 1874 and 1891 he conducted the Rotterdam Male Voice Choir. During those years he composed the Sieben Lieder op. 21, written between 1876 and 1877, and a series of Latin psalms with pronounced chromaticism for male choir.
Today he is remembered above all for these choral works and for his songs of a national character, which made him a recognisable figure in the Dutch music of his time.
