Johann Baptist Anton Vallade
1722–1780 · c 1722 · German organist and composer
Johann Baptist Anton Vallade was a German organist and composer whose dates of birth and death are approximately placed around 1722 and 1780. He worked in southern Germany, where he served as an organist, and his output belongs to the keyboard repertoire of the period.
It is known that he married in Mendorf, near Ingolstadt, on 11 November 1747, a village where he worked as an organist. Almost all of his printed output is for keyboard. Among these pieces, two didactic publications printed in Augsburg stand out: Dreyfaches musicalisches Exercitium auf die Orgel (1755), with figured-bass realisations in a florid prelude style, and Der praeludierende Organist (1757), which offers preludes in all 24 keys together with a system of numbered cadence points for lengthening or shortening them at will. To these is added the collection of German arias Nepomucenische Sing- und Lob-Octav (1756).
His legacy is modest. The sixteen fugues for organ or harpsichord in Musicalische Gemüths-Ergötzung, published in Nuremberg with no known date, contain little material that stands apart from the bulk of organ music from southern Germany at the time, so their interest lies chiefly in their pedagogical function and as evidence of contemporary practice.
