Jehan Henry the Younger was born in Paris on 26 August 1560 and died there on 6 January 1635. He belonged to a family of Parisian musicians: he was the son of Jehan Henry the Elder, a master instrumentalist, and he served at the French court as violinist of the king's chamber and as oboist of the petite écurie during the reigns of Henry IV and Louis XIII.

His instrumental output survives in part thanks to Marin Mersenne, who included eight of his pieces in his Harmonie universelle, published in Paris between 1636 and 1637, that is, shortly after his death. His brother Michel Henry, also violinist of the king's chamber, is known above all for a manuscript description of the ballets performed at court between 1580 and 1620.
