Gummarus Franciscus de Trazegnies
1717–1786 · Antwerp · organist and music teacher
Gummarus Franciscus de Trazegnies was an organist and music teacher born in Antwerp, where he was baptised in December 1717 and where he was buried in June 1786. He belonged to a family of musicians from the city, being the son of Christiaen Balthazar de Trazegnies.
Throughout his career he held organist posts in several Antwerp churches: in 1736 he was appointed organist of continuo, in 1739 he succeeded his grandfather at St Elisabeth's at the Gasthuis, and in 1756 he moved to the chapel of the Holy Sacrament, succeeding his father there, while also holding the organ of the Lady Chapel of the cathedral. He was also an organ expert and taught the harpsichord.
His legacy continued through his descendants: his son Matthias had been organist of St Laurence's in Lokeren since 1783, and his grandsons Josephus and Augustinus also devoted themselves to music.
