Giuseppe Ferraro
fl. c. 1614 · Polizzi Generosa · Italian composer
Giuseppe Ferraro, also cited as Ferrari, was a seventeenth-century Italian composer born in Polizzi Generosa, in the province of Cefalù, Sicily. His activity is documented between 1614 and 1652, although only these approximate dates of activity are known, not his exact date of birth.
He trained under Michele Malerba, whose pupil he was, and a kinship with Antonio Ferraro probably existed, though this has not been confirmed. Between 1638 and 1652 he served as maestro di cappella at the Cathedral of St Paul in Mdina, Malta.
Malerba included a motet by Ferraro for two voices and basso continuo in his collection Sacrarum cantionum … liber primus, published in Venice in 1614, one of the few surviving traces of his output.
