Giovanni Battista Trabattone

fl. c. 1632 · Italian composer

Share:FacebookWhatsApp

Giovanni Battista Trabattone was an Italian composer of the seventeenth century, active at least between 1632 and 1664. His name is linked to a family of musicians, although the exact relationship with Egidio and Bartolomeo Trabattone is almost certain but not documented with any certainty.

In 1632 he held the post of maestro di cappella at the court of Savoy, in Turin. Of his output as a whole, only three motets survive, which appear in an edition of 1664 catalogued in RISM.

The scarcity of sources limits the assessment of his work, but these motets allow us to understand the activity of a maestro di cappella at the Savoyard court in the first half of the Baroque period.
