G Dupoitt
fl. c. 1420 · French(?) composer of the first half of the 15th century
G. Dupoitt is a composer about whom almost nothing is known. He is placed around the years 1420-1430, and his French nationality is merely a hypothesis, expressed with a question mark in the sources.
His only attributed work is a three-voice motet, Salve mater misericordie, stella maris. The text derives from an English conductus of the 13th century preserved in manuscripts from Oxford. The motet appears in a codex from Trent, where the surname is repeatedly given as 'Dupont', a reading that is considered a copying error.
Its interest lies in its use of mensural notation, although the melodic and harmonic writing is rather clumsy.
'Dupoitt' could be a corrupt or alternative spelling of 'Dubois', though there is no conclusive evidence.
