Felice Hüni-Mihacsek
1891–1976 · Pécs · Hungarian soprano
Felice Hüni-Mihacsek was a Hungarian soprano born in Pécs in 1891 and who died in Munich in 1976. Her career unfolded mainly in the German-speaking world between the wars, and she is remembered as one of the great Mozart sopranos of that period.
She trained in Vienna with Rosa Papier and made her debut at the Vienna State Opera in 1919, singing the Queen of the Night's companion role of the First Lady in The Magic Flute. She remained with the Viennese company until 1926, when she moved to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where she sang regularly until 1944 and gave occasional performances in the postwar years, up to 1953.
At first she was a lyric soprano, with roles such as the Queen of the Night, Fiordiligi and Mařenka, but over the years she took on more dramatic parts, among them Donna Anna, Isabel, Antonia, the Marschallin, Eva and Elsa. Alongside her operatic work, she was a distinguished concert performer.
