Erminia Tomeoni
1783–1845 · Paris · French singer and pianist
Erminia Tomeoni was a singer and pianist, daughter of Florido Tomeoni, although she should not be confused with Dutillieu's wife, as has sometimes been claimed. She was born in Paris at a date after 1783 and died after 1845, so the details of her life are scarce.
She studied singing and keyboard at the Paris Conservatoire. After performing and teaching piano in the French capital, she toured Brussels and other cities. While performing in Florence in 1844, she received a contract to work in Mexico City and embarked at Genoa in 1845 bound for that destination.
According to one legend, her ship was wrecked during the crossing, and she, along with other members of the company, spent 17 days adrift in an open boat until they reached an unidentified American coast. As this story is unconfirmed, it should be treated with caution.
