Donald Swann (Llanelli, 1923 – London, 1994) was a British composer, writer and performer best known for his comic musical partnership with Michael Flanders. Born into a family of Russian refugees who were keen amateur musicians, he was largely self-taught, although he studied as an external student at the Royal College of Music while still at Westminster School.

At Oxford he renewed his schoolboy friendship with Michael Flanders and, between 1948 and 1956, the two of them contributed topical songs to intimate London musical revues. In 1956 they premiered their first entertainment for two performers, At the Drop of a Hat, with which they delighted audiences in London's West End and on Broadway for eleven years. Their songs, gently witty satire studded with musical jokes, portrayed the quirks of British life and formed a veritable bestiary, with pieces such as The Gnu and The Hippopotamus. After the second revue, At the Drop of Another Hat, which closed on Broadway in 1967, they collaborated only sporadically until Flanders's death.

Swann was a highly prolific author, endowed with a great gift for memorable melody and for absorbing diverse musical styles. The influence of Rachmaninov and of the Russian folk songs of his childhood pervades much of his work. During the war he served in Greece, where local music, with its flexible rhythms and accompanied by the bouzouki, had a decisive influence on his output. He also composed religious music, mainly for schools, as well as several musicals, operas, cantatas and song cycles of some length.

His legacy endures chiefly in his humorous songs and his song cycles, which combine literary wit with musical craftsmanship. He was the nephew of the American musicologist Alfred J. Swan, and he left an autobiography, Swann's Way: a Life in Song.
