Christian Frederick Ludwig Albrecht
1788–1843 · Hanover · German-born piano maker, born in Hanover
Christian Frederick Ludwig Albrecht was a German-born piano maker, born in Hanover in 1788 and died in Philadelphia in March 1843. His career unfolded in the United States, where he established himself as a maker of keyboard instruments.
He arrived in Philadelphia on 17 October 1822. Between 1823 and 1824 he had a workshop at 106 St John Street, and from 1830 until his death he worked at 144 South 3rd Street. On his death, the business passed to his wife, Maria.
His pianos are valued for their good workmanship. Two examples, an upright and a square grand piano held by the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, are in the Empire style and have six octaves. No relationship has yet been established between him and other makers of the same name, such as Charles Albrecht or Albrecht & Co.
