Bernardino Scaramella

fl. c. 1591 · Italian composer

Share:FacebookWhatsApp

Bernardino Scaramella is an Italian composer about whom very little information survives. He is documented as active in 1591, the year his Primo libro de madrigali a cinque voci was published in Venice, the only work known to be his. The title page identifies him as a native of Palena, a town situated to the north of Naples.

His book of madrigals for five voices displays the features typical of its era: the pairing of voices, melismatic passages in thirds, the alternation between homophonic and imitative contrapuntal textures, and the use of cyclic form.
