Ar. de Ruttis
fl. c. 1420 · Franco-Flemish composer (possible)
Arnoldo de Ruttis was a composer active around 1420, possibly of Franco-Flemish origin. Little information about his life survives, and his identity is known chiefly through the attribution of his works in manuscript sources.
He is credited with Prevalet simplicitas, a three-voice piece that sets a moralising text above a much slower, wordless tenor voice. The work appears in the manuscripts GB–Ob can. misc.213 and I-Bc Q15, two sources that transmit it under this attribution.
As for his family, there is record of a Nicolás de Ruttis, succentor at Tongeren, with a brother named Arnaldo, and of an Enrique de Ruttis documented in Liège between 1447 and 1459. It is not known with certainty that these individuals were related to the composer, so the connection should be regarded as doubtful.
