Renaissance
Antonio Bergna
fl. c. 1582 · Italian composer
Antonio Bergna was an Italian composer about whom very little information survives. His activity is probably to be placed in Ferrara around 1582–1587, according to the findings of the scholars Lazzari, Della Corte and Newcomb.
His name appears among the musicians in the service of Duke Alfonso II of Ferrara, but this reference rests on a single payment record, which may be dated after 1582. The evidence concerning this documentation is fragile, as the scholars who have examined it themselves point out.
The link with the Ferrarese court is strengthened by the publication of his only known work, Ad vesperas omnes salmi falso bordonis concinendi, for five voices, issued in Ferrara in 1587 by Vittorio Baldini, ducal printer.
