Andreas Benedikt Praelisauer
1696–1743 · Kötzting · German canon and choirmaster
Andreas Benedikt Praelisauer was a Bavarian musician of the eighteenth century, baptised in Kötzting in April 1696 and died in Polling in November 1743. The brother of Anton Simon Ignaz Praelisauer, he is chiefly associated with the musical life of an Augustinian canons' college in Upper Bavaria.
After training in Munich, he entered the Augustinian canons' college of Polling, near Weilheim, in 1720. There he served as a canon and, for many years, held the post of choirmaster. He composed incidental music for two plays, Jakob jubiläus sacerdos (1738) and Sacrae scripturae studium, angeli custodis gaudium (1739), whose texts were published in Tegernsee.
On his death he bequeathed to the foundation a collection of scores, partly his own work and partly the work of members of his family, which constitutes his principal known contribution.
